Congratulations. You’ve bought a boat and trailer from overseas and now you need to get it registered so you can use it. Our team can help you with everything you need to get registered so you can use your trailer.

Here’s what you need to do from the time you purchase your overseas manufactured trailer until it get’s registered in NSW:

  1. Do not import a boat trailer into Australia before obtaining a vehicle import approval. You can obtain one here: https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/
  2. Pick up your boat and trailer from the Docks. This will need to be done with a tow truck as it is illegal to tow an unregistered vehicle.
  3. Book an appointment for a weighbridge ticket, reggistration check and any modifications with Bold Trailer And Caravan Repair Centre on (02) 8544-8114
  4. Remove the boat from the trailer and moor or dry store your boat (this will be done for you if you are using a commercial storage facility).
  5. Deliver your boat trailer to Bold Trailer And Caravan Repair Centre
  6. Bold Trailer And Caravan Repair Centre will assess the boat trailer and note any modifications required for it to comply with Australian Standards. (This will not be done at the time of dropping off the trailer)
  7. We will provide a written quote for any modifications required.
  8. We will phone you to discuss your trailer. If possible, we would prefer you to drop into the workshop and discuss your trailer in person.
  9. You will need to advise Bold Trailer And Caravan Repair Centre what work you would like us to carry out and provide approval for this work by signing a job card.
  10. Bold Trailer And Caravan Repair Centre will proceed with the modifications approved by you.
  11. We will organise your weighbridge ticket.
  12. We will organise your Blue or Brown Slip.
  13. We will phone you when the work to your boat trailer is completed.
  14. You will attend the workshop for final inspection of any trailer modifications, pay invoice and collect registration paperwork.
  15. You will then take the paperwork we give you to Service NSW (there is one locally) and pay your registration fees. Service NSW will give you a number plate.
  16. Enjoy your new boat and trailer.
